Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) has been implementing various developmental activities for the improvement of the quality of life of the poor and the empowerment of women since 1985 and has successfully ensured employment through skill development since 2010. Since January 2016, it has signed an agreement with Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and has successfully ensured employment to unemployed youth from pastoral and poverty-stricken areas after completing the skill development courses Tranch-1, Tranch-2 and Tranch-3 of the Skills for Employment Investment Program-SEIP project. It has also been successfully completing other skill-related trainings including BDRCS, Stromme Foundation, PROSPERITY, Non-formal TVET (Ostad model).

As a non-governmental development organization, the Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) has been implementing various activities including non-formal, primary, secondary education, and technical training in 22 districts of the country.

However, despite the huge demand for skilled human resources and technical education in the country and abroad, this issue is not being taken into consideration much. Again, even though some technical educational institutions have been established, due to some limitations, even after completing courses from these institutions, one cannot achieve full proficiency.

In this context, while children from affluent families get the opportunity to go to big cities and get education, students from poor families are falling further behind. Realizing this reality, the Government of Bangladesh (GUK) established the GUKIET Institute of Engineering and Technology (GUKIET) in 2014.

Since its inception, GUKIET has been providing quality education at affordable prices and helping successful course graduates to get jobs and become entrepreneurs.

In a decade from 2014 to 2024, a total of 386 students, including 219 in Civil Engineering and 167 in Electrical Engineering, successfully completed the four-year diploma course from GUKIET, and a total of 219 students, including 750 in Computer Office Applications, 152 in Mobile Phone Servicing, and 67 in Dress Making and Trailering, successfully completed the 6-month short course.
